Word Wall

how word walls will be used in my classroom and writing impact what I want to do as a teacher.
As a teacher I will use a word wall for students names, new vocabulary words, no excuse words, and even use it to incorporate words that go with our lessons. I will use it each week and I will not move it. I think students learn best to use a resource that is never moved because then it is stuck in their memory and at some point they may be able to visualize it without looking. I think using the strategy "Flashlight Fun" with the students to review words on the word wall would be a great way to keep the students excited and willing to learn.

  1. These sound like great ideas to use a word wall! I really liked the "Flashlight Fun" idea as well, anything that is just a little different than normal to make it really stick in their heads.

  2. I think that the word wall is always a great idea. I like how you are going to also put their names on the word wall, makes it a little more personal for everyone in the class.

  3. Mariah,

Word walls are a great idea for all teachers to use in their classroom. I've seen word walls displayed in several classroom that I aide in and they have tons of words that students don't know how to spell or words that were found in reading books that students can't pronounce. Once the word is on the wall, students can use them for their writing in language arts, social studies and science.

  4. I love your idea of using word walls to incorporate new words that correspond with your lessons. I remember as a student that I would often read words and not know what they meant. It would be beneficial to have a word wall so that students could look at it, and it could engage students in conversation. I also agree with your idea of keeping your word walls in one place so that students always know where to look in order to find words that they are currently learning.

  5. These ideas are great! I agree with what DarNaye13 said about the incorporation with the lessons ^. I TOTALLY agree about the word walls not being moved so the students can use it as a reference and resource.

  6. Spot on! I love how you are looking to make the students aware of the words, and your classmates gave you great advice on how to let students be in charge of the words. You all are the best!

  7. I think it's pretty cool that you would use the word wall for student names. That could help the students get to know each other and also help you get to know them as well!
